Dena Patterson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 29, 2025, at DHR in Edinburg. She leaves behind a legacy of love and countless memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.Born on November 15, 1961, in Joachim Township, Dena lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and quiet devotion to the people she loved. At the heart of Dena's life was her family. As a dedicated homemaker, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and care. She also worked outside the home, both as a pharmacy technician and as the manager of a local video store-balancing her roles with grace, determination, and a strong work ethic. Her greatest love story began in high school, when she met her soulmate, Eric Patterson. They married in 1979, and Dena graduated from high school in 1980. Dena and Eric built a beautiful life together. Dena was immensely proud of her sons and daughter-in-law and treasured every moment with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Those who knew Dena will remember her gentle spirit and welcoming smile. She had a gift for making people feel at ease and never hesitated to lend a hand or share a kind word. She enjoyed crafting and decorating, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she poured her heart into making it magical-transforming her home inside and out, much to the delight of her loved ones. Birthdays were also special in her care, always full of thoughtful details and creative touches.Dena's support of her grandchildren extended well beyond celebrations-she was a regular at their games and events, their biggest cheerleader on and off the field. Her love for sports ran deep; she once ran the city baseball league in Bonne Terre, Missouri, and even helped start local flag and full-contact football programs. She and Eric enjoyed traveling, especially after retirement. In 2016, they began spending winters in the Rio Grande Valley and made Trails End in Weslaco their full-time home in 2023. Their time there was peaceful and joyful, surrounded by new friends and the beauty of the area.Dena's faith was central to her life. She loved Jesus and was active in her church, always ready to serve and uplift those around her. Her quiet strength and deep compassion were a reflection of the faith that guided her.She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Joan (Davis) Axley.Dena is survived by her loving husband, Eric Patterson; her sons, Wesley Patterson (Alison) and Russell Patterson; and her grandchildren, Gaven, Tristan, and Ryan Patterson. While Dena will be deeply missed, her presence lives on-in the scent of vanilla, in the joy of a shared meal, in the sparkle of Christmas lights, and most of all, in the love she gave so freely to her family and friends.
