Caring, kind, and generous are just a few words to describe my uncle. As he passed these attributes, and so many more, on to his entire family, so I will always see this larger-than-life man in my cousins and his wife, my aunt, Mary Ann.

Mary Ann and children, please accept my condolences on the death of your husband and father. I remember his dedication to his family and the farm, and his devotion to God and his example as a good Catholic. I will pray for the repose of his soul, and for God’s comfort for you. Edward Bauer was a great man & one of the best farmers, especially growing cabbage. He was a kind & generous man who shared vegetables with my family. My dad & he would joke a lot making some wonderful memories. He loved my dad & my dad loved him. Edward will be truly missed but we rejoice that he is in heaven & has earned his wings! Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, sons & daughters & extended family. May he rest in heavenly peace.

May God comfort all of you as you navigate this time of loss and learn to live without Ed’s presence.
In 1980 on a cold, cloudy, windy winter day 11 miles east of Menard, Texas a man started banging on my door. He was an imposing man, driving a beat up pick-up. He had on dirty jeans, a plaid shirt, blue windbreaker and watch-cap pulled tight on his head. He sported a 2 day growth of beard and I had never seen him before. He kept banging, in a very insistent way. Scary looking guy! I almost didn’t open the door, but boy am I thankful I did! Ed was there to share! This day he had come to the hill country with 50 pound sacks of jalapeños, poblanos, cabbage, and boxes of grapefruit and oranges. He was deer hunting with his sons outside of Mason. (Explains his appearance)
Ed and my husband had met in the valley when Lee asked Robert if he could get some cucumbers from a field he was disking. After this meeting, Ed, Mary Ann and his daughters spent many Thanksgivings in Menard.
Sharing describes Ed’s mission in life! Ed shared his faith, family, gusto for life, and love of farming with me, my son and my husband. Mary Ann and Ed became lifelong friends and welcomed me and my son into their family. I shared many wonderful adventures with them! Hunting, fishing, vacationing, and just enjoying a drink, a meal, or a Sunday afternoon looking at crops or driving around south of the border. I thank God for his faithful servant Edward, who enriched my life with his laugh, his practical jokes, his twinkling eyes, wagging ears, and steadfast support and friendship. Thank you for sharing 40 years of your life with me. See you on the other side dear friend!
