Weslaco

Weslaco-Elisa Martinez Izard, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023. She was born November 1, 1937, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to Esperanza Martinez and Thomas Gomez. Lisa was the eldest of 6 siblings; Tommy, Estella, Ellie, Robert, and Johnny. She met Norman Izard on a blind date, and they married a few months later, in March of 1961.

Lisa loved to talk to every person she met. She never knew a stranger! Throughout her lifetime, Lisa enjoyed mainly dancing every weekend. In her free time, she also did some sewing, gardening, and many craft projects later in life. With Norman at her side, they traveled worldwide, including England, France, Germany, Spain, and North Africa. Together, they also traveled to every state in the U.S.

Elisa graduated from Carlsbad High School in New Mexico. She then attended Cosmetology School and worked for a very good friend at her hair salon in Weslaco, Texas. After wanting a career change, Lisa enrolled at a Vocational Business School in Weslaco. Once she graduated, she worked for the State of Texas Human Services Division, where she retired after many years of employment.

Elisa is survived by her husband of 63 years, Norman Izard. She is also survived by her daughter and her husband, Kay and Daniel Bolek; her son, and his wife, Michael and Terri Izard; grandchildren, Megan Zakour, Heather Zakour, and Austin Izard. Elisa has two surviving siblings residing in New Mexico, a sister Estella Gomez and a brother Johnny Gomez. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
