Wayne and I grew up together. Her name was Ellen Wayne Boyd and my name was Ellen Mae Boyd. She was my aunt, only 4 years older, so we were raised like cousins. When I was born, Dad wanted to name me "Ellen," and Mom said "Don't you know you have a little sister in Tennessee named Ellen?" "Oh, they'll never be together!" When I was four and Wayne was eight, Grandpa, Gracie, and Wayne moved to Weslaco. Of course the double name was always used to designate which Ellen was being addressed. Eventually Ellen Mae Boyd became Ellen Boyd and Ellen Wayne Boyd became Wayne Boyd. I was too young to know how it happened that I was the one to be called Ellen and she was called Wayne.
Wayne was a sweet and loving woman. We were great friends. I played the piano for her wedding to Carl Snyder and my father gave the bride away.
