I don't know where to start. I was a new pastor in Ryder, Makoti, and Roseglen. I had no idea what I was doing. Every Sunday when Elmer and Virginia walked out of church, Elmer would whisper to me, "You do good work. That kept me going.
Elmer and Virginia were also our neighbors and adopted grandparents. We were together alot. We did everything from going to the Air Museum, fishing, fixing things, and working on antiques, and serving The Makoti Threshing Association. Our favorite thing to do was sit at their house and drink brandy at about 3:00- 6:00 while Elmer told war stories or showed me war stuff and aircraft stuff. He let me read his flying magazines.
As many of you know there was only one way of doing things and that was Elmer's way. When we went fishing, he didn't think I could clean fish right. I would say, "show me one more time." I usually got him to clean all my fish.
I know we will really miss him. He has touched and changed our lives.
