Elvia Campos Martinez

June 9, 1928 — December 27, 2022

Weslaco - Elvia Campos Martinez, 94, passed away at Weslaco Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weslaco on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Elvia was born in Harlingen, Texas, to Higinio and Paula (Leal) Campos on June 7th, 1928.

She attended school in Weslaco and graduated from Weslaco High School. She worked in the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s office for many years, where she developed the skills that would later help her become an entrepreneur. Elvia met her soulmate, Jose Martinez, in 1961 at her parent’s home. Jose showed up at the house and the rest was history. It was love at first sight, and the couple was married within weeks on July 22nd, 1962 at San Juan Bautista Roman Catholic Church. Then, she and Jose settled in Visalia, California. They enjoyed a beautiful life together where they raised their only son, Carlos. When Jose eventually retired, he and Elvia moved back to Weslaco, where they spent the rest of their lives. They enjoyed retirement by taking yearly trips to Las Vegas and spending time with family. Elvia loved to spend time with her loving grandchildren. She made it a point to prioritize their school events and always showed up with a surprise for the children. She looked forward to every family gathering because family was Elvia’s everything.

Elvia, as a housewife, would always think about how to make money for the family. She later became the business owner of “Campos Party Rental” where she would set up for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and other events. She was always a very organized person and loved collecting all sorts of antiques, such as coins, Avon bottles, musical boxes, and many more. Elvia will most be remembered by her giving and caring nature to her parents, brothers, sisters, daughter-in-law and her love for her grandchildren.

Elvia was a devout Catholic, and her faith was the most crucial thing in her life.

Elvia was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Martinez, her parents, Higinio and Paula Campos, her sisters, Elia C. Gomez and Elida Peña (Martin+). She is survived by her son, Carlos Martinez and his wife, Lupita Martinez, of Weslaco, her granddaughters, Klarissa A. Martinez, Krystal A. Martinez and Kaylee A. Martinez, her grandson, Carlos J. Martinez Jr., her brothers, Gene Campos (Berta) and Roland Miller (Pearl), her sisters, Eva Corona (Ramiro+), Elisia Gracia (Carlos+), brother-in-law, David Gomez, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5th, from 1-9 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6th, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10 am, officiated by Father Francisco Solis. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carlos Martinez, Lupita Martinez, Klarissa Martinez, Krystal Martinez, Carlos Martinez Jr., and Kaylee Martinez.
