Ernest Lee Hyde's Obituary
Weslaco, Texas – Ernest Lee Hyde, 94, passed away on May 7, 2026.
Lee was born on December 22, 1931, in Donna, Texas, to Ernest and Catherine (Turner) Hyde. His family moved to Edinburg, Texas, in 1933. He attended Edinburg High School, where he played football and baseball for the Bobcats, graduating in 1950.
He proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. In May 1955, he married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Carter, daughter of Ross and Rema Carter of Edinburg.
Lee and Margaret made their home in Houston, Texas, where he graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1958. He began his career with the Gaylord Container Division of Crown Zellerbach Corporation. In 1961, he was transferred from Houston to Weslaco, Texas, and in 1972, he was promoted to Plant Manager. He retired in 1988 at the age of 57.
A devoted husband and father, Lee raised four children: David, Beverly, Martha, and Stuart. Following retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, and traveling in the couple’s RV. He and Margaret spent many summers in the mountains of Colorado.
Lee was a member of First Baptist Church of Weslaco and served for several years on the Weslaco Housing Authority.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Carter Hyde; his daughter, Martha Hass-Hernandez; his son, David Ross Hyde; and his parents, Ernest and Catherine Hyde.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Kay Terveen (Melvin), and his son, Stuart Hyde; his grandchildren, Ashley Terveen, Courtney Hance (Denver), Cameron Terveen (Brook), Sydni Hyde, Mason Hyde (Kelly), Marshall Hass, and Carter Hass (Tiffany); and ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Weston Hance; Truly, Trinity, Shirley Kay, and Cash Terveen; Avari Hass; and Oliver, Adelyn, and Dylan Hass. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Catlett (Van).
Services will be handled by McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco on Saturday, May 16th at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco located at 6705 Farm to Market 88, Weslaco, TX 78596. Serving as pallbearers will be; Cameron Terveen, Carter Hass, Mason Hyde, Denver Hance, Lance Terveen and Johnny Grimes. Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Hass and Lonnie Gegenheimer.
