Weslaco: Esmeralda "Esmer" Giron, 46, succumbed to after a courageous battle on Monday, September 25th, 2023. She was surrounded by family at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Esmeralda was born on August 6th, 1977, to Ricardo and Maria Anna (Casas) LongorÍa in Weslaco, Texas. 

 

Esmer met her soulmate, Rodolfo "Rudy" Giron Jr., while attending Weslaco High School, and they spent the rest of their lives together. 

 

Esmeralda had a passion for learning and achieved outstanding academic success. After graduating from high school in 1995, she pursued a career in the medical field. Esmeralda started as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and continued her education to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Her thirst for knowledge led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from UT Arlington.

 

Esmer was known for her selflessness and genuine care for others throughout her life. Her warm and loving nature touched the lives of many. She approached every interaction with kindness and compassion, offering support and comfort to those in need. 

 

Aside from her professional accomplishments, Esmer was a woman of many interests. She found joy in providing pedicures for her family members and enjoyed spending time on social media connecting with loved ones nearby. Playing bingo with family brought laughter and excitement into her life. Esmer also cherished moments spent watching movies alongside her high school sweetheart, Rudy.

 

Family traditions were essential to Esmer. Her favorite holiday customs included matching outfits with her husband and children, making tamales with her mom and sisters, and a New Year's celebration at Rudy and Esmer's home, where they embraced family and friends. 

 

Esmer will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style and classiness. Her beauty shone not only on the outside but also through the love she showered upon others. She dedicated herself to caring for her parents, demonstrating unwavering filial love throughout their lives.

 

Esmeralda is preceded in death by her grandma Guadalupe Casas, father, Ricardo LongorÍa Sr. and brother Ricardo  LongorÍa Jr.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Rodolfo “Rudy” Giron Jr.; her mom, Maria Ana LongorÍa; her daughter, Ashley Giron; her son, Rudy Giron III; her sisters, Leticia  LongorÍa, Maria Isabel Saldana (David), Maria Guadalupe LongorÍa, and Martina Ramos (Ricardo), brother, Ramon LongorÍa (Monica), and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be Friday, September 29th, from 2-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 30th, 10 am-1 pm, followed by a graveside service at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
