Flo Caldwell's Obituary
Donna- Flo Caldwell, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 20, 2025. She was born on December 29, 1942, in Boswell, Oklahoma, to Robert and Flora (Taylor) Watson, and grew up in Snyder surrounded by the love and laughter of her siblings. Mischief and “shenanigans” filled her childhood, memories that she cherished throughout her life.
After graduating high school, Flo met the love of her life, Horace, on a blind date in Snyder, Texas—a meeting that changed both of their lives forever. The two married in 1962, and a few years later, they moved to Donna, Texas, when Horace began working at Citizens Bank. Together, they made Donna their lifelong home and became deeply woven into the fabric of the community.
Flo was outgoing, full of life, and never met a stranger. She and Horace gave generously of their time, volunteering at Knapp Medical Center and Harvest Night for many years, with Flo even serving as chair one year. She was also a proud member of the Weslaco Literary Review Club, where she enjoyed friendship, learning, and lively discussion.
Tennis was one of Flo’s greatest passions. More than just a pastime, it was a true love—she was a fierce competitor, winning many awards and spending countless hours on the court. Through tennis, she built lasting friendships, and her drive to “perfect her game” reflected her spirited and determined nature.
Flo’s creativity knew no bounds. She worked with stained glass, loved to read, and found joy in planning family gatherings. Family reunions in Snyder were highlights of her year, and Christmas held a special place in her heart. Each year, she delighted in gifting her eldest grandson, Brendan, with a puzzle or game and her younger grandson, Landon, with a nutcracker—traditions they will carry forward with love.
At home, Flo’s garden was her sanctuary. With a natural green thumb, she filled her yard with vibrant flowers and plants. Over the years, her love extended to many pets, especially cats and dogs, who were part of her family.
Although she devoted most of her life to being a homemaker, Flo’s talents were widely recognized. Each year, during Valentine’s, Mother’s Day, and other special occasions, she worked at Jenk’s Flower Shop, creating breathtaking floral arrangements. Later, her gift for design led her to Bougainvilla’s in Weslaco, where she helped create stunning interior arrangements.
Flo was also known for her baking, especially her legendary pumpkin rolls, cheesecake brownies, and exquisite cakes. She poured love and artistry into every dessert, baking countless wedding cakes that became the centerpiece of celebrations across the community.
Above all, Flo’s life was anchored in her deep faith. She loved Jesus wholeheartedly, and her trust in Him never wavered. Today, her family finds peace knowing she is resting safely in the arms of her Lord and Savior, free from pain and sorrow.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Flora (Taylor) Watson, her siblings, Joy Howell, Eddie Watson (Jeneane), Clark Watson (Betty), and Shirley Lofstrom (Roy); her nephews, Robert Caldwell, Benny Tom Merritt; and niece, Becky Howell.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Horace W. Caldwell; her daughter, Lisa McIntyre, and her husband, Gavin; her grandsons, Brendan McIntyre (Alexandra), and Landon McIntyre (Claire); her sister-in-law, Barbara Adams (Vernon), as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, from 4–8 p.m., and Thursday, August 28, from 3–9 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow on Saturday, August 30, at 10 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.
