Gregoria O. Rodriguez's Obituary
Gregoria O. Rodriguez, a beloved matriarch and woman of steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at Knapp Medical Center. She was born on May 26, 1930, and lived a remarkable life marked by kindness, resilience, and deep devotion to her family.
Gregoria met and married the love of her life, Roberto Rodriguez, in Weslaco, Texas, in 1949. Together they faced life’s greatest trials, enduring the heartbreaking loss of four of their six children. Through it all, they worked side by side as migrant laborers across the country, demonstrating unwavering determination to provide for their family. In time, Gregoria found a fulfilling role at McManus Produce, where her dedication and strong work ethic were deeply valued.
Her faith as a proud Jehovah’s Witness was the foundation of her life. She shared her beliefs not only through words but through the example she set—living with humility, kindness, and love. Her home was a warm and welcoming haven where family gathered, laughter flowed, and her children and grandchildren—her greatest joy—were nurtured and cherished.
Gregoria was an exceptional cook, known for her delicious empanadas, tamales, and the pumpkins she grew in her garden. Family barbecues and birthday celebrations were treasured traditions where her cooking and hospitality brought everyone together.
Her creativity extended beyond the kitchen. She loved knitting, sewing, and dancing, and her fondness for music often filled the home, especially when she played her harmonica for loved ones. She encouraged others with her wisdom, lifted spirits with her joy, and inspired countless lives with her strength.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roberto, parents, Inocente and Dolores (Parra) Olvera, and by her children, Guadalupe and Guadalupe (twins), Roberto, and Joel. She is survived by her daughters, Minerva Rodriguez and Olga Rodriguez; grandchildren, Lisa Martinez (Candido) and Javier Rodriguez (Maribel); great-grandchildren, Miabella Martinez, Jordan Isaac Rodriguez, Roberto Rodriguez, and Clarissa Rodriguez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral services will follow on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., also at McCaleb Funeral Home. Gregoria will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Park.
Gregoria’s legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on through all who knew her—a lasting reminder of the beauty and strength she brought into the world.
