Ivan "Joey" Gomez Hernandez's Obituary
Weslaco – Ivan “Joey” Gomez Hernandez, 45, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Knapp Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1980, in El Salvador.
As a young boy, Ivan grew up surrounded by the love of his family, especially his grandparents, whom he affectionately called “Tito” and “Tita.” He spent countless hours by their side, creating memories that would shape the loving and joyful man he became.
Ivan met the love of his life, Michelle Perez, at a gathering in Harlingen. Michelle had been invited by her sister, but from the moment they met, it was love at first sight. From that day forward, they were inseparable, building a life together rooted in love, laughter, and devotion.
Ivan was known for his vibrant spirit and constant smile. He was a man who deeply loved his family—his wife, his children, and all those close to him. He shared a special bond with his cuñado and cherished every moment spent with loved ones.
He had a lifelong passion for soccer, a love he shared with his grandfather. Together, they spent many afternoons cheering on his favorite team, FC Barcelona. Ivan’s joy extended to the simple things in life—his beloved cat “Kiwi,” whom he lovingly called his “gatito mosho,” music that filled every corner of his home, and his signature style of basketball jerseys and shorts.
Ivan also had a heart for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for his family. One of his greatest joys in life was becoming a grandfather. His grandson, Ezzekiel Loa, brought him immense happiness, and he eagerly looked forward to the day he could chase after him as he began to walk.
Ivan is preceded in death by his grandmother, Tita.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle Perez; his grandfather, Tito, his loving parents, Rosa Maria Hernandez de Gomez and Wilfredo Gomez; his brothers, Alvaro Luis Gomez Hernandez and Boris Enrique Gomez Hernandez; his children, Sergio Ivan Gomez, Heidee Gomez, Santa Perez, Anahim Mendoza (Fernando Loa), Heileigh Perez, and Leslie Nathalia Berdugo; and his cherished grandson, Ezzekiel Loa.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
