Jesusa "Jessica" G. Cantú's Obituary
Weslaco/Bryan- Jesusa "Jessica" G. Cantú, 93, passed away at her son's home on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023.
Jesusa was born on January 27th, 1930, to Ambrosio and Ramona (Guajardo) Guevara in Weslaco, Texas. Jesusa grew up in Weslaco, where she spent most of her life. She met her husband, Rafael, through a mutual friend. Jesusa and Rafael spent the next forty years together until his untimely passing in 1984. Jesusa remained a widow for the rest of her life.
Jesusa worked as a seamstress at Dickies for many years. Later, she went to work for the Weslaco School District in the cafeteria. Jesusa dedicated the next twenty-five years to serving our children when she decided to retire.
Jesusa was a woman of great faith. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc, where she sang in the choir.
Jesusa was passionate about gardening. She loved being outdoors and was lovingly called "the shovel lady" by friends, family, and neighbors.
Jesusa's seamstress skills that she learned at Dickie's became a lifelong hobby. She loved to sew and make blankets. She was talented and took great pride in her work.
Jesusa will always be remembered as a fun-loving, outgoing, and loving person. She was active, not wasting a drop of sunlight.
Jesusa was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rafael Cantú Sr., daughter, Marianela Guajardo.
She is survived by her son, Rafael Cantú Jr., and his wife, Yolanda; granddaughters, Abba De Mangum, Audrey Ann Cantú, Amber Rae Miles, and Alanis Sam Cantú; great-grandchildren, Gage, Lena, Atlas, and Astraea.
