Kim Curry's Obituary
Weslaco- Kim Allen Curry, 70, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at McAllen Medical Center. Kim was born on July 23, 1955, and raised in Donna, Texas, with two brief periods of living in Corpus Christi. He graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1973.
Shortly after graduation, Kim met the love of his life, Janice, at Green Acres Golf Course—over a foosball table. They married in 1975 and celebrated 50 wonderful years together last August. Together, they raised two children, and early on, Kim made a decision that defined much of his life—he would do whatever it took to provide for his family. Teaching himself computer programming through books and classes at South Texas College, he built a successful career that he carried through to retirement. He was, by all accounts, exceptionally intelligent.
Kim knew how to enjoy life. He loved classic television shows such as Columbo, The Andy Griffith Show, Matlock, and Frasier, as well as films like Rudy and The Great Escape. A devoted fan of John Wayne, he considered Big Jake his favorite movie. He could quote the Star Wars saga, the Indiana Jones films, and many John Wayne films with ease.
Kim enjoyed good food. He was an excellent cook and would make elaborate dishes while Janice scuttled around behind him, cleaning up the kitchen. He would finish the dish and turn around and say, “And I hardly made any mess!’ His favorite foods were watermelon and chili dogs, as many know. His fantasy football team was called the Chili Dogs!
Kim’s interests were as diverse as they were impressive. He was a Ham Radio Extra who made friends across the globe and was fascinated by the technical workings of radios and antennas. He played the guitar, enjoyed photography, and puzzles. Later in life, he surprised himself by learning how to knit and discovering a natural talent for drawing.
He was known for his remarkable sense of humor—one that could transform even the most serious moments into laughter. Whether performing magic tricks (with more emphasis on the “tricks” than the magic) or delivering perfectly timed humor, Kim had a gift for lifting spirits. His lighthearted nature was contagious, and his ability to bring joy to others was one of his most treasured qualities.
Family meant everything to Kim. He remained especially close to his parents and sister, particularly after the passing of his brother, Kevin. He spoke with his mother daily and, alongside his sister, lovingly cared for his father in his final days. Their family bond was filled with laughter, inside jokes, and a deep sense of unity that never wavered.
Kim was immensely proud of his children, Bryan and Melinda, who grew into accomplished and admirable adults. Though he once set aside his own educational goals to provide for his family, he took great joy in seeing his children earn their degrees and succeed in their lives and careers.
His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. Nothing brought him more joy than hearing their stories, seeing their pictures, and being part of their lives. He prayed for them constantly—prayers for their salvation, safety, and happiness—and cherished every moment spent with them.
Above all, Kim will be remembered as a faithful and Godly man who loved the Lord wholeheartedly. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Weslaco, where he served as a deacon for over 30 years and taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. Through his teaching, mentorship, and personal testimony, Kim impacted countless lives, always blending truth with his signature humor. His legacy of faith and service will continue to shape generations.
Kim is preceded in death by his father, Sammy Curry, and his brother, Kevin Curry.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; his children, Bryan Curry and wife Morgan, and Melinda Curry Lasater; his mother, Phyllis Curry; his grandchildren, Harrison Curry, Parker Curry, Ally Lasater, Emily Lasater, and Evelyn Lasater; his sister, Keri Sandvig (Jimmy); along with many beloved in-laws, extended family members, and dear friends.
Kim’s life will be celebrated at First Baptist Church on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:30 am, officiated by his dear friend and pastor, Dr. Steve K. Parker.
