Leonor "Tita" Avila's Obituary
Donna: Leonor “Tita” Flores Avila, a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and proud daughter of Donna, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the age of 95. Surrounded by the love of her family, she was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord.
Tita was born on December 10, 1930, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Lic. Leon A. Flores and María Inés Gonzales Flores. Her life was deeply rooted in faith, service, and love. From a young age, Tita displayed remarkable musical talent. She studied opera under Maestra Challita and often performed during the 7:00 a.m. Masses at the Santuario del Perpetuo Socorro. A gifted soprano, she performed several operatic masterpieces, played the piano, and sang beautifully. She shared companionship and friendship with Lucila Saavedra and Tomás Iglesias, both recognized for their musical talents. Tita used her love of music to glorify God throughout her life. She also served as a Eucharistic minister and was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Daughters for over forty years.
At the age of seventeen, Tita was crowned Reyna del Club de Leones. She worked at the Centro de Salud in Monterrey and earned a Business degree. Choosing family as her highest calling, she became a full-time homemaker and was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Den Mother for both of her sons. Tita was also an exceptional cook—her Sunday dinners, especially her mouthwatering rice, were eagerly anticipated by the family.
Tita’s greatest joy was her 68-year marriage to the love of her life, Homero Avila. Their story began in a moment of destiny when their parents met at Donna Avila Park. Tita’s father had brought his baseball team from Monterrey to play at the park owned by Homero’s father, and it was love at first sight. After four years of courtship, they married and together built a beautiful life filled with devotion, faith, and enduring love.
Tita enjoyed traveling, and she and Homero visited Hawaii twice and traveled to Las Vegas often. She loved watching game shows such as The Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune, enjoyed sports, faithfully rooted for her favorite teams, and relaxed by playing solitaire.
Tita is preceded in death by her husband, Homero Avila Sr.; her parents, Lic. Leon Flores and María Inés Gonzales Flores; her son, Homer Avila Jr.; her in-laws, Panfilo (P.R.) and Eva Avila; her son-in-law, Joe Studer; her brother, Dr. César Leon Flores (Rosa María); and her sisters, Laura Flores Yamallel (Mario) and Josefina “Baby” Flores.
She is survived by her beloved children, Titina Garcia (Gabriel), P.R. Avila II (Sofia), and Ludy Studer (Joe+); her cherished grandchildren, Homer III, R.J., Brianna, Homer Daniel, and Isabella; her sister-in-law, Irene Martinez (Noel Sr.+); her sisters, Leticia Angélica “Conny” Flores Villarreal (Jaime+) and Ludivina Flores Gonzales (Fernando); her brother, Lic. Leon Flores (Magda); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who held her dear.
We take comfort in knowing that Tita is now at peace, reunited with the loved ones who went before her, and resting in the loving arms of our Lord. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
Above all, Leonor “Tita” Flores Avila was the heart of her family. Her love, strength, and devotion will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan 20, 2026, from 2-9 pm, with a Holy Rosary at 7 pm. Tita’s life will be celebrated with a Mass on Wednesday, Jan 21, 2026, 2 pm, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Donna. Tita will be laid to rest with her husband, Homero.
