Mercedes-Leticia “Letty” Santoyo, a beloved daughter, mother, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully at her home in Mercedes, Texas, on May 9, 2025. Born on February 2, 1963, in Mercedes, Letty was a natural caregiver whose passion for helping others influenced her remarkable career in healthcare. Starting as a feeder, she worked diligently to support patients in need and never ceased to strive for excellence in her profession. Letty returned to school at Pan American University while juggling roles as a nurse's aide, phlebotomist, and Licensed Vocational Nurse, ultimately graduating with an Associate's Degree to become a Registered Nurse.
Letty’s educational journey began at Mercedes High School, where she graduated with pride and enthusiasm. A talented flutist, she found joy in music through her active participation in the school band. She was also a proud member of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), where she developed early leadership skills and a strong work ethic that would guide her throughout her life and career.
Those who knew Letty admired her beautiful spirit and intelligent mind, all wrapped in a vibrant personality. She was known for her delightful laughter during phone conversations, generous heart, and unwavering kindness. Letty had more love to give than imaginable, touching the lives of everyone she met.
In her leisure time, Letty found joy in caring for her dogs, working diligently in her yard, nurturing plants, and ensuring that her beloved ranch remained well-kept. The beach was also a cherished retreat, and she delighted in quilting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creative spirit.
Letty's proudest accomplishments were her deep love for her children and her fulfilling nursing career, where she found immense satisfaction in aiding others. Life’s greatest joy for her was being a mother, a role she cherished profoundly.
Letty has been reunited with her beautiful daughter, Jamie, her parents, Manuel P. and Aurora S. Santoyo, nephew, Jaime Onderdonk, and many others in eternal peace.
She is survived by daughter Aurora Garcia ( Isaiah ) and sisters Sandra Onderdonk Flores (Lupe), Elena Santoyo, Herlinda Gamez, Maria Concepcion Santoyo, and Irma Villarreal (Abel).
