Maria Flores' Obituary
Weslaco- Maria Flores, 71, passed away on August 12, 2025. Born and raised in Weslaco, Maria graduated from Weslaco High School and went on to live a life as vibrant and spirited as the smile she shared with everyone she met.
Maria was deeply spiritual and actively involved with both her church congregation and local retirement community. She had a gift for making friends everywhere she went—never meeting a stranger—and her presence could light up any room. Her generous heart and joyful energy drew people in, leaving behind countless friendships and fond memories.
Hardworking and versatile, Maria was a true “jack of all trades.” Her career spanned many roles, including executive assistant, real estate agent, head secretary for the school district, and attendance clerk. She intentionally chose to work in the schools her children attended, ensuring she could be present for every milestone. Organized, dependable, and a joy to work with, Maria made a lasting impression in every workplace.
Maria embraced her independence as a single woman, proudly owning and caring for her home at Trails End. She kept it spotless inside and out, decorating it with the pretty and sparkly things that brought her joy. She loved her many windchimes, the beauty of her flowers and plants, and decorated her outdoor deck and patio for every holiday and special occasion.
An active neighbor and friend, Maria attended nearly every park-sponsored event and often helped organize them. Whether greeting friends while walking her beloved Chihuahua, Tito, or dazzling on the dance floor, she brought life and joy wherever she went. A proud member of a close-knit line dancing group of seven, affectionately known as “Let’s Go Dance, Girls,” Maria was the life of the party—always smiling, laughing, and having a good time. Her charm, rhythm, and warmth touched everyone around her.
A devoted mother of three—Misty, Erik, and Crystal—Maria poured herself into her children’s lives, supporting them scholastically, socially, and spiritually, even when they lived far away. She would sacrifice her own comfort to ensure their success, and she cherished making trips to Floresville to attend her grandchildren’s school events. She was also a proud grandmother, treasuring every moment with the younger generations.
Her interests were as colorful as her large collection of custom cowboy boots. She was a devoted country music fan, a health food enthusiast, and a student of financial investing, always eager to learn and plan for the future.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Saturnino and Guadalupe (Sandoval) Garcia, and nephew, James Moreno. She is survived by her children, Misty Flores, Erik Flores (Jennifer Gonzalez), and Crystal Flores; sisters, Irene Sandoval, Paula Moreno (Jose+), Ester Staudt (Joe), Teresina Rodriguez (Mario), and Susana De la Garza (Rudolpho+); grandchildren, Erik, Eli, Jacob, and MJ; numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends; and of course, her constant companion Tito, who never left her side.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 7:00 p.m., at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
