Maria M. Guardiola's Obituary
Weslaco— Maria M. Guardiola, a devoted wife, mother, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100.
Born in Del Rio, Texas, Maria's life was centered on her family and her relationship with God. She married the love of her life, Jose Faustino Guardiola, and together they built a home and raised five children.
A Life of Faith, Compassion, and Integrity
Maria's greatest legacy was rooted in her faith. A dedicated homemaker, her proudest accomplishment was teaching her children the Word of God, a foundation that shaped every aspect of her life. She was a faithful, honored wife and a godly woman who raised her family in the ways of the Lord, reading her Bible daily.
Maria possessed a huge heart filled with compassion. She was known for being the first to offer assistance, often taking food, medicine, and clothes to those in need. She was also a tireless worker who lived by the motto, "no dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy" (don't put off until tomorrow what you can take care of today). She was a woman of integrity, leaving a legacy as one who was virtuous, strong, capable, respected, and adored.
Finding Joy in God's Creation
Maria found simple joy in the natural world. She loved watching God’s creation and would often sit by her window to observe the squirrels, rabbits, birds, and butterflies. She even adopted a special pair of doves, which she affectionately nicknamed "mis bonitas" (my lovelies), treasuring them as her own pets. While she had a flair for dressing up and adorning herself with jewelry, her true beauty radiated from her kindness and unwavering spirit.
Family
Maria is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Faustino Guardiola; her parents, Andres and Juanita (Soto) Medina; her siblings; her grandson, Steve Gonzalez; her son-in-law, Duane Wellyn Shriver; and her daughter-in-law, Marcy Guardiola.
She is survived and dearly missed by her loving children: sons Gilberto Guardiola, Guillermo Guardiola (Delia), and Tino Guardiola (Vicky); and daughters Janie Shriver and Mina Rodriguez (Steve). She is also survived by her brother, Isaac Medina; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were blessed by her love and presence.
