Maria Atilana "Tila" Mireles, born on October 5, 1928, in the warmth of family and community, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by love at her home, surrounded by her cherished family.A true matriarch, Maria was the heart of her family, a beacon of light whose vibrant spirit and nurturing heart made every gathering a treasured occasion. Throughout her life, Maria was known for her incredible talent in the kitchen. Her love for cooking was palpable, as she poured her heart and soul into every meal she prepared, ensuring that everyone who sat at her table felt the warmth and affection she held for them. Her family gatherings were not just meals; they were celebrations of love, laughter, and connection-moments that will forever be etched in the hearts of those she served.Maria exemplified strength and faith, a testament to her role as a strong prayer warrior. She devoted her life to her faith, a proud member of The Pentecostals of Weslaco under Bishop Tony Ybarra. Her commitment to her beliefs shone brightly, especially when she was baptized in Jesus' name in Russellville, Arkansas-a milestone that underscored her unwavering devotion to her faith.In addition to her role as a devoted matriarch, Maria found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had an innate love for gardening and was often surrounded by flowers that mirrored her vibrant personality. She delighted in attending Nuestria Familia Adult Daycare #5, where she forged bonds and friendships that enriched her life. One of her fondest pastimes was playing chalupa and singing with her beloved brother, Secundino Peña. These moments brought her immense joy and filled her days with the melody of shared memories. Maria's legacy will live on through the love she cultivated within her family and friends. Her strength, compassion, and kindness will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A true lover of life, she created a tapestry of connections that will continue to inspire future generations.Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Felipe and Higinia (Reta) Peña, her loving husband, Pedro Mireles, their granddaughter, Stephanie Mireles, grandson, Silvestre Corona Jr., and son-in-law, Leonel Orozco.She is survived by children, Maria Victoria Alaniz (Ruben ), Maria Guadalupe Orozco (Leonel ), Esperanza Mendoza (Mario), Mario Mireles (Maria), Maria "Pilar" Corona (Silvestre), Jose Antonio Mireles (Blanca), Juan Pedro Mireles, Isabel Smith, and Norma Mireles, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home, located at 900 W. 4th St., Weslaco, TX, with a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m. Her celebration of life will continue on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Pentecostals of Weslaco, 502 W. Sugarcane Dr. in Weslaco. Maria will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park following the service on June 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.As we bid farewell to Maria Mireles, we carry with us the echoes of her laughter, the warmth of her embrace, and the strength of her spirit. She has left an indelible mark on our hearts, a reminder of the beauty of family, faith, and the power of love.
