Miguel "Mike" Hinojosa Jr.'s Obituary
Weslaco – Miguel “Mike” Hinojosa Jr., 84, passed away on February 22, 2026, at his home in Weslaco.
Mike was born on December 5, 1941, and raised in Weslaco. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years, where he worked as a radar specialist. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home, married Maria H. Cantu, and began the career that would define much of his life’s work—becoming a Master Plumber. At the time, Mike was the youngest master plumber in Texas.
Through hard work, integrity, and skill, Mike built a reputation for excellence. With Maria managing the books, Mike’s Plumbing grew into a trusted and well-respected business in the community. His name became synonymous with professionalism and quality workmanship. More than 50 years ago, Mike’s Plumbing handled the plumbing contract for McCaleb Funeral Home, and over the decades, he has been involved in countless residential and commercial projects, including new construction, remodels, and maintenance work throughout the Valley.
Although plumbing was his specialty, Mike was also a talented welder and carpenter. He built the Hinojosa family home. Mike’s Plumbing became a multi-generational family business, and his sons continue to carry on the work he was so proud of.
Mike believed strongly in giving back to his community. He served on the Weslaco Board of Appeals and Adjustments for over forty years and was also actively involved with the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce.
In his quieter moments, Mike enjoyed spending time in his yard caring for his plants. He was also a gifted artist who loved painting portraits.
A man of faith, Mike was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where he attended Mass faithfully and spent time in prayer.
In 2017, Mike married Eva, and together they enjoyed traveling and sharing their retirement years side by side.
Mike is preceded in death by his first wife, Maria, his parents, Miguel and Maria (Castro) Hinojosa, and his sisters, Eleanor and Maria Luisa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eva; his two sons, Miguel Hinojosa III (Lora) and Martin Hinojosa (Brenda); step-sons, Norman Alvarez (Sandra), Joe Alvarez (Dee), his grandchildren, Dianne Hinojosa, Michael Angel Hinojosa, Makayla Alita Hinojosa, and Martin Alfredo Hinojosa Jr., Jacklyn Torres (Rudy), David Alvarez, Jonathon Alvarez, and Kaitlyn Alvarez, his brothers, Armando Hinojosa and Humberto Hinojosa; his sisters, Juanita Martinez, Rosie Castellanos, and Anita Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Mike will be laid to rest beside his late wife, Maria, at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
