Noe Arnoldo Cavazos

June 21, 1932 — August 13, 2014

WESLACO— Noe A. Cavazos Sr., 82, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and honorary veteran entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas. The son of Feliberto Cavazos and Herlinda Garza, he was born in Weslaco, Texas where he was a Weslaco mid-valley pioneer. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He served as a Sergeant, with his most significant duty in the Company A. 73-division tank battalion.
After receiving his honorary discharge, he began a career as a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission Officer, he then moved on to become a community service activist at the ACCEDC, and from there he became an Executive Director, establishing the RGV Opportunities Industrialization Centers and foster grandparent program. His legacy of public service leaves a mark on a countless number of people advocating for the poor, underprivileged, and the disenfranchised. He loved people and the camaraderie of being around friends and family. He leaves memories to be cherished, and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife Dora Cavazos; his children, Zelma (Joe), Noe Jr. (Tommie), Cynthia (Eduardo), and Eduardo “Eddie”; and his sister, Lucila Arroyo; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Emilio (Zoila) Cavazos, Filiberto (Lillie) Cavazos, Daniel (Evelia) Cavazos, Ramiro (Emma) Cavazos, Luciano G. Cavazos; his sister, Oralia (Jesus) Cavazos- Karam; and his granddaughter, Crystal Cavazos. Noe A. Cavazos Sr. leaves a life of faith, love, family values, friendship, loyalty, appreciation, honesty, and respect for public service.
A Viewing will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 with a Rosary to begin at 7 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas. A second viewing will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 with a Rosary to begin at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco, Texas. Interment with full military rites will follow at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Serving as pallbearers will be Noe Cavazos III, Noel Cavazos, Aizar Cavazos, Victor Cavazos, Tony Arroyo, Guadalupe Villalobos, and Jacob Arroyo. Honorary pallbearers will be Priscilla Lamas, Chantell Lamas, and Bianca Barrera.
