Pedro Leija

Pedro Leija, born on June 29, 1941, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2025, just two days before his 84th birthday. He was surrounded by his loving family, a testament to the deep bonds he cultivated throughout his life.

Pedro was known for his joyful spirit, friendly nature, and gift for storytelling. His warm personality and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Pedro took great pride in providing for his family and found strength and guidance in his deep Catholic faith.

Pedro worked in agriculture for many years. Later, he went to work in construction, where he fabricated molds for highways. Although he did not receive a formal education, his unwavering work ethic did not go unnoticed, reflecting determination and resilience every step of the way. Pedro was also a bit of an entrepreneur; he would buy and sell things often to make extra income after hours.

He embraced life with gratitude and joy. Pedro loved dancing at La Pulga and socializing with friends. Later, he enjoyed activities at the adult daycare, Nuestra Familia #5, where they played cards, loteria, and dominoes. Pedro delighted in simple pleasures—watching TV, listening to music, eating carne asada, and trying his luck with lottery tickets. He also had roosters and ducks that he enjoyed caring for.

Above all, Pedro cherished his family. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by titles or possessions, but by the love he gave and received. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, connection, and faith that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Pedro was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio Leija and Emilia Covarrubias, son, Jorge Leija, siblings, Alfredo, Juan, Vicente, Francisco, and Flor.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Leija, son, Jonathan Leija (Esmeralda), granddaughter, Itzel Leija, brother, Julio, and many nephews and nieces who will forever honor his memory.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Sacred Park Cemetery, located at 12506 N Mile 2 West Road, Mercedes, TX 78570. Pedro will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
