Prudencia Garza

April 13, 1926 — June 25, 2020

Weslaco- Prudencia C Garza, 94, was reunited with the love of her life, Ramiro Garza, on Thursday, June 25th, 2020. Prudencia was born on April 13th, 1926, to Lino and Alejandra Cavazos in Alamo, Texas. The family moved to Weslaco, where Prudencia and her four siblings grew up and went to school.

Prudencia met Ramiro Garza at a dance when she was a teenager. They were married in 1942 and raised five children together. Ramiro and Prudencia made a great team. He worked very hard, and with Prudencia's support, he managed numerous businesses throughout their marriage. They were a pioneer family and instrumental in the growth of Weslaco. Ramiro and Prudencia founded Tony's Grocery Store and Tortilla Factory. Ramiro continued running his agricultural business, which forced him to travel often, and Prudencia would manage the store.

The children were raised with plenty of discipline. They were all expected to help run the business, which required long hours. When Ramiro fell ill, Prudencia loaded up the five children and took them to work in Michigan and California during the summer months. Prudencia was never afraid to work and was willing to do whatever it took to make sure her children were able to get an education. The summer trips did include some vacation time, of course.

Prudencia and Ramiro enjoyed traveling together. They loved to dance and spend evenings with other couples. The family was able to spend lots of time in Mexico visiting tourist attractions and family. They often spent the day at the beach when the store was closed.

Prudencia will always be remembered as a wonderful, loving, wife, and mom. She was strict but still patient and caring.

Prudencia is preceded in death by her parents, Lino and Alejandro Cavazos, husband of fifty four years, Ramiro Garza, and son, Roberto Garza, siblings, “Chon” Cavazos, Teresa Munoz (Candelario), Gabino Cavazos (Lori), and Lino Cavazos (Eva), sisters in law, Carolina Elizondo (Antonio), Hercilia Hernandez (Joe), and Dora Martinez (Kirul).

She is survived by her children, Juanita G Cantu (Richard), Antonio Garza (Odelia), Graciela G Puente (Alfredo), Nora Marroquin (Aurelio), all of Weslaco, daughter in law, Elida Garza, sister in law, Orfelinda Cavazos, grandchildren, Richard Cantu, Ramiro Cantu, Laura Lee Cantu, Antonio Garza Jr., Carlos Omar Garza (Vanessa), Rodolfo Puente (Brenda), Sandra Lisa Aguirre (Mario), Dina Liza Quintanilla (Yancey), Freddy Puente, Alejandra Gaza, Cindy O'Brian, Ana Lisa Rodriguez (Dan), Luis Reyes III (Edith), Gilberto Robledo (Edward Guther), great-grandchildren, Richard, Ruby, Leslie, Lauren, and Lindsey Cantu, Clemente and Charlotte Garza, Kendra, Riannha, and Andrikk Puente, Mario, Danny, Michael, and Bella Aguirre, Amber, Emma, Nehemiah, Noah, and Elijah Quintanilla, Cameron and Dylan O'Brian, Sarah Rodriguez, Louie, Levi, and Liam Reyes, and great-great-grandchild Amber Cantu.
