With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Raquel R. Barrera, who departed from this world on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at her residence in Weslaco, TX. Her loving family surrounded her.

She was born to Domingo Rivera and Celestina De La Cruz in Harlingen, TX on March 3rd, 1939.  She was the cherished spouse of Cesario Jose Barrera Sr.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Margaret Guerrero, and her son Alejandro Barrera.

Survived by her children Nelda Carmona of Austin, TX; Joe Barrera Jr and his spouse Idalia Barrera of San Juan, TX; Raymond Barrera and his spouse Clara Arevalo of San Juan, TX; Sandi Barrera and her spouse Amado Argumedo of Austin, TX; and Linda J. Carmona and her spouse Jesse Carmona of Weslaco, TX.

She leaves behind a legacy cherished by her 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A talented seamstress, Raquel found joy in creating beautiful garments and quilts. Her hands deftly stitched together fabrics, weaving stories and memories with every needle and thread.  She was an avid fan of Lifetime movies, finding solace and entertainment in the captivating dramas and heartfelt stories they portrayed. She cherished cozy evenings spent curled up on the couch, immersed in the world of cinematic tales.

A lover of intellectual challenges, Raquel enjoyed exercising her mind with word puzzles. Whether it was crosswords, Sudoku, or cryptograms, she relished the mental stimulation and satisfaction of solving each puzzle.  Raquel loved the music of Marco A. Solís' heartfelt songs. His music brought her comfort and filled her home with peaceful sounds. 

Our dear Raquel will forever remain in our hearts, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19th, 2024, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX.
