Rene Garza Jr.'s Obituary
Weslaco – Rene Garza Jr., 75, passed away on February 24, 2026. He was born on December 1, 1950, in Weslaco, Texas, to Rene Garza Sr. and Dalia Treviño Garza.
Rene was a proud lifelong resident of Weslaco, where he grew up and played football for the Weslaco Panthers. His love for the game never faded. He faithfully cheered on his alma mater and remained a devoted fan of his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Rene married Juanita, and together they raised three children in Weslaco. He shared his passion for sports with his children, encouraging them to play and proudly coaching many of their teams over the years. Whether on the field or in the stands,
Rene was always present, supporting and guiding them. In his younger years, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting, hobbies that brought him great joy. Above all, Rene was a devoted father who was always there for his children.
Rene is preceded in death by his parents, Rene and Dalia Garza, and his brother, Rudy.
He is survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Juanita “Janie”, his son, Rene “Tiki” Garza III (Laura); his daughters, Nina Garza and Vanessa Garza; his sister, Maxine Guerra (A.R. “Felo”); and his beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob Tiki, Kailyn, Teagan, Jesus, and great-granddaughter, Kamila, his nieces and nephews, Monica Guerra, Marissa Moreno (Rene), Felo Guerra (Tory), David Guerra (Victoria), who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation and a memorial service for Rene will be held on Friday, March 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
