I go back a long way in my relationship with Rex, to 1965, when my husband Bob Morris and I met him and his wife Birgit at what became the Rhine Research Institute in Durham, North Carolina. He was finishing a PhD in Psychology and teaching at the Summer Research Institute in Durham. He went on to have a long career as an experimental and theoretical parapsychologist in parallel to his academic career as a social psychologist. He was productive (with Birgit's unstinting support), dedicated and very very bright. He also had one of the finest writing styles I've ever encountered. We exchanged emails regularly through the decades, before and also after my husband died in 2004. His annual Christmas letters were prose masterpieces, accompanied (after he retired and moved back to South Texas) by brilliant photographs of the local wildlife. I spent 35 years trying to persuade him to visit us in Edinburgh, Scotland, but it didn't happen. I'm heartened to think that his post-retirement years were the happiest of his life.
