Rob rode on by school bus throughout grade school, but Rob and I officially met in Junior High when he was cast as Dr. Gibbs in "Our Town," and I was Mrs. Gibbs. He was so popular, and I was in awe of him -- his humor and kindness. In high school and college years (I, too was at U of M, but not in the Greek system) we kind of did our own thing; so when he was a salesman in Texas and contacted me in Denver, I was pleasantly surprised. He came through on a business trip and met my husband and me for dinner. We caught up and I encouraged his thoughts of going into English teaching (the subject I taught before becoming a school counselor). I was so glad that he achieved what he dreamed. Once we became facebook friends, I followed his wonderful life, along with his wife's and kids' (I'm sorry I never had the pleasure of getting to know them).
Anyhow, word sometimes travels slowly, and so I just found out today of the deaths. I am deeply saddened, but know they are in a great place together. Best wishes to his mother and family during this difficult time!
To the Peterson family: I am deeply sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you all.
Mr. Peterson is the English teacher I’ve aspired to be. His classes further ignited my passion for literature and he provided his students with valuable insight to college and imparted the importance of education. His memory will always be with me and my former peers.

Rob was a high school friend of mine and even tho we were 1 year apart, I'll never forget all the support he gave me for all the different school activities we were both a part. And it didn't hurt that our moms were best friends.
What halcyon U of M memories of Rob & I dancing on the SAE porch as the marching band came by the house on football Saturdays in 75. What fun! We had our whole lives ahead of us...Rob did very well with his life down in Texas. I send condolences to the entire Peterson family, especially his mom who has been through so much. I think I speak for all the brothers in saying it was an absolute JOY to know Rob. I cherish the memories.

The memory I have of Mr. Peterson is one of acceptance no matter who you are. Before I became a teacher, I worked at the Weslaco High School library along with Mrs. Noemi Sepulveda. I already had my degree, but I was working on the teacher certification. Some professionals would treat me like I was below them. Mrs. Sepulveda would tell me to tell them that I had a degree like they did, but I chose not to. Mr. Peterson always treated me as a valuable person. He never did ask if I was educated or not, he simply respected me as a valuable part of WHS. I learned to be like him. Every person deserves a smile and good morning, whether they are a principal or a janitor. He valued people and treated everyone with value. Sorry that I never got to tell him this. Mrs. Peterson, you're also a very special person in my heart. I am praying for you and your family in this difficult time.
Rob had a positive impact on people. I never knew teaching was so much fun until i met Rob. Many of us are hurting for we will miss him and his advice greatly. Abundant life and peace to his wife, Sue, and all of Rob's family and friends. My most sincere condolences.
My dear friend Sue, I'm sending you a loving hug, I'm so sorry for your loss, may Rob RIP, and may God comfort you and give you His peace, love you my friend. ❤️
