Robert Javier Garza's Obituary
WESLACO - Robert J. Garza. 52 passed away on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, at McAllen Heart Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born in Weslaco, Texas, to Israel and Elida Garza.
Robert grew up in Mercedes. As a child, he was very loving. Robert was outgoing, caring, generous and loyal. Many of his childhood friends became lifelong friends.
He went to college at the University of Texas-Pan American, earning a Bachelor's in 1991.
Robert and Fatima were married in 2003 and spent the rest of their lives together in Weslaco. He was an entrepreneur, and throughout his career, he owned and operated several successful businesses, including RJC Benefits, RJ Garza Investments, and Garza Long Group.
Robert embraced his community by sponsoring countless local youth sports teams and donated to numerous charities and organizations.
Robert was an avid sports fan. He watched them all, but the Cowboys were his favorite team. Robert looked forward to football season and had numerous fantasy football groups. In addition, he loved golfing and barbecuing with friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Israel Garza.
He is survived by his mom, Elida Garza; wife, Fatima Gonzalez Garza; sisters, Sylvia Benefiel (Jeff) and Cynthia Fleitman (Wayne); nephews, Ethan Benefiel, Dax Fleitman (Jessica), Dean Fleitman (Beth); nieces, Briley Bezner (Nick), Brenna Fleitman, Heidi Fleitman, and Eadie Fleitman.
Visitation will be Monday, February 6th, 1-9 pm, with a rosary at 6 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 7th at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, 10 am, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park.
