Rogelio "Lito" Garza Jr.'s Obituary
Weslaco—Rogelio “Lito” Garza Jr., 80, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Knapp Medical Center. He was born on October 2, 1945, in Donna, Texas, to Rogelio and Dionicia (Cabello) Garza.
Lito’s life was rooted in hard work, resilience, and love for his family. Growing up, he worked as a migrant alongside his family, traveling north for part of each year. After marrying Estela, they continued this work together until they began raising their children. Through determination and perseverance, Lito rose to become a supervisor, earning the respect of those around him for his leadership and strong work ethic. He built a lifelong career in agriculture and later continued his work as a supervisor at Gaylord Container in Weslaco, where he eventually retired.
Lito was a kind-hearted, fun-loving, and generous man who found joy in serving others. A gifted cook, he had a special way of bringing people together through food. Whether at fundraisers or family gatherings, he could often be found behind the grill, preparing his well-known brisket, chili, picadillo, and menudo. His spontaneous celebrations and welcoming spirit made every gathering memorable.
Deeply devoted to his community, Lito was an active member of the Weslaco Lions Club and LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens). He dedicated many years to helping provide Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need across the Rio Grande Valley. His generosity and commitment to others left a lasting and meaningful impact.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and white-wing hunting, and loved watching sports, sharing laughter with friends, and the thrill of visiting casinos. A natural on the dance floor, Lito’s energy and joy were contagious, and he could light up any room with his presence.
Lito will be remembered for his optimistic spirit, his love for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was resilient, selfless, and compassionate—a true fighter who touched countless lives.
