Rolando Garza's Obituary
Weslaco—Rolando Garza, a devoted family man, dedicated public servant, and proud South Texas gearhead, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born on June 14, 1956, to Jesus and Anita (Ojeda) Garza in Weslaco, Rolando spent his entire life rooted in the community he loved.
Rolando's life changed forever when he met his soulmate, Bethavez “Betsy” Martinez. Their love story began in the halls of high school. As the responsible older brother, Rolando often picked up his younger sister and her friend, Betsy, and it wasn’t long before a genuine connection blossomed. Rolando and Betsy were married in 1979 and built a beautiful life together over decades in Weslaco. Their shared journey included frequent date nights out dancing, cozy “movie nights” at home, and enjoying meals, with Rolando always ready for Chinese food or a trip to his favorite, Olive Garden. He was a loving, attentive, and deeply devoted husband who adored his wife.
For his professional career, Rolando proudly served the Weslaco community at Weslaco I.S.D. in the transportation department. This job was more than just a paycheck; it was an extension of his role as a supportive father. He often picked up weekend shifts to drive the bus for extracurricular activities, such as band, allowing him to spend time with his children and transport them to their events. Rolando cherished his chosen career and the camaraderie he shared with his co-workers.
Rolando was a true outdoorsman who found peace and joy in his hobbies. He and Betsy maintained a small farm where Rolando eventually built a chicken coop, ensuring the family always had fresh eggs. He enjoyed working his land with his tractor and caring for his animals. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was most content when he was outdoors.
He also harbored an intense affinity for cars, a passion best embodied by his lime green Challenger, which was his pride and joy. Rolando was an active member of the South Texas Mopars Car Club, meticulously maintaining his car and preparing it for competition. His dedication paid off when he placed in several competitions, including taking 1st place in the prestigious Mopar vs. The World Challenge.
Above all, Rolando’s family was the most important thing in his life. He was a constant and supportive presence for his children, often seen cheering on his girls from the stands as they marched with the Weslaco Panther band. He worked tirelessly to show his love and supported his children and grandchildren unconditionally.
Rolando is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Anita Garza; his beloved daughter, Steffannee Garza; his brothers, Jesus Garza Jr., Alfonso Garza, and Aurelio Garza; and his sisters, Isabel Garza and Mary Moreno.
He is survived by his wonderful wife of 46 years, Betsy Garza; his daughters, Michelle Adame (Juan Jr.) and Jackie Williams (Josh); his son, Rollie Garza; and his cherished grandchildren, John Michael Adame, Orion Williams, Aleana Williams, and Roland Williams. He also leaves behind his siblings: Joel Garza (Alma), Joe Garza (Isela), Tony Garza, Freddy Garza, Nina Cantu (Roy), Irene Almaguer (Ceaser), and Maggie Gonzales (Ernest); as well as his sisters-in-law, Dora Garza, Concha Garza, and Alma Garza, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM. A reception will follow at 7:00 PM.
