Ronald Rollins' Obituary
Ronald L. “Ron” Rollins, age 95, passed away at the John Knox Village Nursing Care facility in Weslaco, Texas on Wednesday evening, May 6, 2026.
Ron was born in Michigan to Lowell and Doris (Cook) Rollins of Bryan, Ohio on February 7, 1931. He was a graduate of Bryan High School, served in the US Air Force, obtained a bachelor’s degree from Defiance College, and a master’s degree from the University of Toledo. Ron married Kay (Donna Kay) Briggs in 1957. After retirement from a career in education, Ron and Kay moved to South Padre Island, Texas, eventually settling at John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas in 2018.
Ron, a lover of classical music and a great reader, was regularly called “Coach” by friends and former students because he coached many sports and enjoyed athletics all his life. He especially loved football. Ron enjoyed stories of past football seasons at Liberty Center High School, and poured over the details of the current season of The Ohio State University football team with his wife and family. But he also made new football friends, thanks to the generous friendships of the John Knox staff and Weslaco High School football Program. Because of these friendships, the constant love of his wife, Kay and his children, and the care and laughter of his helper Nelda Cardoza, Ron lived a grateful and contented life to the very end.
Ron Is survived by his wife, Donna Kay (Briggs) Rollins; children, Holly (Mike) Hershberger, Christopher (Caroline) Rollins, and Heidi (Jim) Croy; grandchildren, Christine Hershberger, Amanda (Drew) Warner, Faith (Zachariah) Houck, Taylor Rollins, Caris Croy, Julia (Sam) Rychener, and Mitchell Croy; great-grandchildren, Lynesa Shock, Tristan St. John, Zoe Shock, Travyn St. John, Ethan Warner, Livia Warner, James Houck, and Dylan Houck; and many, many, friends and caregivers of John Knox Village, who will all miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Doris Rollins; brother, Kenneth Rollins; and sons-in-law, Michael J. (Holly) Hershberger, and James M. (Heidi) Croy.
Ron's wish was to be cremated. There will be a short memorial service on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Friendship Hall, John Knox Village, 1300 S. Border Ave., Weslaco TX 78596.
