Weslaco- Sigifredo Cardenas Luna, a beloved husband, father, and longtime bus driver for Donna Independent School District, passed away peacefully at his home in Weslaco on June 26, 2025. He was born on December 15, 1944, and throughout his life, Sigifredo exemplified dedication—to his work, his community, and most of all, his family.
For many years, Sigifredo lovingly served the students and families of Donna ISD, safely guiding generations of children to and from school. Even in his later years, his heart remained with the city of Donna, where he often volunteered—giving back to the community he loved so dearly.
Sigifredo was a devout Catholic and a man of deep faith whose hope in Jesus Christ carried him through life’s greatest trials. The most devastating of these was the tragic loss of his beloved son, Leonel, and his son-in-law, Mario, in a car accident in 2019. Though his heart was broken, Sigifredo never lost sight of God’s promises. He clung tightly to the unshakable truth of eternal life through Christ—a truth that gave him strength, comfort, and peace. His quiet endurance in the face of sorrow was a powerful testimony of God’s sustaining grace, and his unwavering trust in the Lord was a guiding light to those who walked beside him.
Sigifredo was known for his selfless spirit and unwavering devotion to his family. He placed the needs of others before his own, living a life shaped by love, generosity, steadfast devotion to his family, and quiet strength. His life touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he impacted.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Cecilia (Cardenas) Luna, his son, Leonel Luna, his son-in-law, Mario A. Troncoso, his siblings, Arturo Luna, Aurora Luna, Sylvia Luna, Francisco Luna Jr., and Arnoldo Luna.
Sigifredo is survived by his loving wife, Guadalupe Luna, children, Adela G. Troncoso (Mario+), Frank Luna (Hilda), Rosa Castillo (Joe), Ernesto Luna, Sigifredo Luna Jr. (Lori), Arón Luna (Ronnie), siblings, Leonel Luna, Ruben Luna, Armando Luna, Alonzo Luna, twenty-one grandchildren, two great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass in his honor will be celebrated at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco, Texas, on July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Following the Mass, Sigifredo will be laid to rest during a solemn inurnment service at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco at 11:00 AM.
As we reflect on the life of Sigifredo Cardenas Luna, we remember not only the man he was but also the many lives he touched with his compassion and dedication. His legacy will surely live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
