Weslaco- Steven Gregory Davila, born on October 23, 1985, in Weslaco, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 30, 2025. His life was defined by love, integrity, and an unwavering devotion to others. A beloved son, brother, father, friend, and educator, Steven leaves behind a legacy of compassion, purpose, and community service.
Steven was raised in Weslaco alongside his younger sister, Elizabeth Ashley, who adored her big brother. He was her fiercest protector, her confidante, and her role model. Their bond was unbreakable, filled with shared memories and unconditional love. Steven also cherished his childhood friendships that endured through every season of life. He grew up surrounded by his close-knit circle of cousins affectionately known as the “Bash Brothers”. To him, friendship was family, and he cultivated relationships that endured through every season of life.
As an educator, Steven poured his heart into shaping young minds. He served full-time at Rico Elementary, where his passion for learning and deep care for his students left a lasting impact. His calling as a teacher was more than a career; it was an extension of his character—a man driven by purpose, hope, and the belief in every child’s potential.
Steven was also involved in city and county elections, embodying a strong sense of civic responsibility and community pride. He consistently showed up, offering his time, energy, and unwavering support to causes that mattered. Whether through laughter, inside jokes, or spontaneous get-togethers, Steven had a gift for turning ordinary moments into lifelong memories. His smile was infectious, hard to forget and a sign of the joy he carried inside of him that only God himself can give. His ‘servants’ heart brought that joy to as many people as he could help and we can only hope to live our lives by his example.
A talented athlete, Steven graduated from Weslaco High School in 2004, where he earned admiration as the quarterback of the Weslaco Panthers. Yet it was on the baseball field where his heart truly thrived. His passion for the game led him to play in the East/West All-Star Game where he was honored to receive the MVP award and then later joined the UTPA Bronc Baseball team—a testament to his dedication, discipline, and natural talent. Sports were more than just competition for Steven; they were a way to inspire, lead, and connect with others.
Steven’s passion for football and baseball remained a lifelong constant. Friday night lights were more than just a tradition—they were sacred. He faithfully supported his alma mater, cheering on Weslaco Panther athletes in football, basketball, baseball, and beyond. His love for the game extended to the college level, where he continued to follow UTRGV baseball with great pride. A true sports enthusiast, Steven’s room proudly displayed memorabilia from his favorite teams, and he never missed a chance to cheer on the Houston Astros as a die-hard fan.
Beyond his devotion to sports and education, Steven’s greatest joy came from his role as a family man. He met the love of his life, Melissa, and together they built a beautiful family. Steven embraced her children, Autumn and Caleb, as his own, with open arms and a whole heart. When their son, Ethan Gregory, was born, Steven stepped even more fully into his purpose—fatherhood. Ethan was his everything. Whether coaching his son’s team, tossing the ball in the yard, hosting weekend barbecues, or settling in for a family movie night, Steven was intentional about making memories that would last a lifetime. His love was present, his laughter was loud, and his heart was full of joy.
Those who knew Steven will forever smile at the memories he leaves behind—whether it’s the beat of an 80s or 90s classic, the twang of old-school country, the comforting aroma of fried chicken or fish (his favorite foods), or the sight of a neatly hung polo shirt. He had a rare gift for turning everyday moments into something extraordinary—through infectious laughter, inside jokes, favorite shows, or simply by being fully present. His presence lit up a room, and his absence leaves a silence only love can fill.
Steven was a faithful member of Family Life Ministries, walking closely with God and living out his faith through love, service, and integrity. He embodied the heart of a servant leader—humble, courageous, and deeply compassionate. His humor endeared him, his convictions inspired, and his kindness uplifted everyone he encountered. Steven loved his community fiercely and believed in giving back to it. Whether participating in city and county elections or mentoring young minds, he consistently showed up—wholeheartedly—making a lasting impact in ways both visible and unseen.
Steven is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Senovio and Maria Theresa Ramirez, and paternal grandparents, Gregorio and Estella Davila, his aunts, Esmeralda Ramirez, Olga Ramirez, Viola Zuniga, Estela Solis, and uncles, Ramon Ramirez and Genaro “Kenny” Zuniga.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; their beloved son, Ethan; two stepchildren, Autumn and Caleb, whom he loved as his own; his devoted parents, Sylvia and Erasmo ‘Mito’; his sister, Elizabeth Ashley (Eddie); as well as his adored niece, Mila, and nephew, Micah, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
