Yolanda Palomares Martinez's Obituary
Yolanda Palomares Martinez, a devoted wife, beloved sister, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas, at the age of 64. She was born on September 29, 1961, in Weslaco, the city she loved and called home her entire life.
Yolanda’s life was defined by love and loyalty. While in high school, she met her soulmate, Rogelio “Roy” Martinez, and their beautiful love story unfolded over the following decades in Weslaco. She was the unwavering support, strength, and constant companion to her loving husband, Roy.
Yolanda was an organized and detail-oriented professional. She dedicated her skills and talents to working as a seamstress at Haggars for fifteen years and as an office administrator at Knapp Medical Center for twelve years. She also loved working with children, serving as a substitute teacher for the Weslaco Independent School District. Even as an adult, Yolanda's heart remained with her Weslaco alma mater. She was an enthusiastic supporter, always looking forward to Friday night lights, seeing old friends, and cheering on the Panthers to a win.
When she wasn’t working, Yolanda filled her life with warmth and good humor. Her fun and witty personality shone when she was playing chalupa with family and friends, bringing laughter and joy to every game.
She was an excellent cook, famous for her delicious chile relleños and fideo, which were always prepared with love. Yolanda also loved to shop, especially for a good bargain. Many of her weekends were spent happily thrifting at garage sales, and lately, searching for buried treasure at Casa Kevin. She loved to dance and listen to her favorite Tejano singer, Marcos Orozco, and found a creative outlet in coloring on her tablet, bringing pictures and scenes to life with color.
Above all, Yolanda’s life was centered on her family and faith in God. She was generous and selfless, embodying the role of a true matriarch. She was a second mother to her siblings, especially Sulema, whom she cared for and nurtured, earning her the special title of “mom”. Yolanda was a cherished role model of love and loyalty to her many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Cruz (Herrera) Palomares; her father-in-law, Jesus Martinez; her siblings, Rosa Ana Palomares, Corina Palomares Solis, Marta Palomares Moreno; her brother-in-law, Noe Martinez; her niece Jennifer Nicole Silva (who died as an infant); and her nephew, Erik James Palomares.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rogelio “Roy” Martinez; her siblings, Juan Palomares (Blanca), Armando Palomares (Alma), Alicia Palomares Martinez (and late husband Noe), and Sulema Palomares; her mother-in-law, Beatriz Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm, followed by a time of sharing stories, at McCaleb Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 10:00 am, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco. Yolanda will be laid to rest at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes. Serving as pallbearers will be John Andrew Palomares, John Paul Martinez, Esteban Perez, Alberto Peña, Andrew Peña, and Guadalupe Lupe Guajardo.
