Alicia Zavala's Obituary
Weslaco — Alicia Zavala, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at her home. She was born on June 1, 1937, in Weslaco, Texas.
Alicia was a devoted and hardworking mother who raised four children as a single mom, a role she embraced with strength, determination, and love. She worked at the Delta Lake packing shed and also as a housekeeper for area families, always providing for her children through honest, tireless work. At home, Alicia was an excellent homemaker, and her tamales were a family favorite that everyone looked forward to.
Alicia was a born-again Christian and was deeply involved in her church. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and participating in church activities, and holidays were always spent surrounded by family, including her brothers and sisters in Christ.
Above all, Alicia was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful role model who taught her family the values of love, sacrifice, and service to others—lessons that will continue to live on through those she leaves behind.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Zavala; her parents, Merardo and Leocadia Noyola Gonzalez; and her sisters, Amalia G. Gonzalez, Anna G. Sanchez, and Aurora G. Gonzalez.
Alicia is survived by her children, Guadalupe Zavala Jr. (Diana), Sylvia Zavala, San Juanita Salinas, and Aracelia Salinas; her nine grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco. Alicia will be laid to rest at Weslaco City Cemetery.
