George A. Gandara's Obituary
Edinburg- George Gandara passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 3rd, 2026, at Edinburg Regional Hospital. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, to +Ildefonso Gandara and +Mary A. Gandara, and is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ana M. Gandara, his daughter, Monica E. Gandara, and his brother, Robert Gandara. George attended Incarnate Word College where he met and married the love of his life, Ana M. Gandara. Together they had three children, Adam, Monica, and Rebekah.
George went on to earn his BS degree and then his master’s degree in Computer Science at UTRGV. He spent his career working across many organizations helping to expand the use of technology, and brought that experience to multiple school districts in the Rio Grande Valley. George and Ana were active members of the Catholic Church where they both volunteered as Marriage Encounter Counselors while raising their three children. George later worked as a Grief Counselor with the diocese.
When his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer, George dedicated his time to her care until her unfortunate passing in 2006. He extended this same commitment to caring for his loving parents until their deaths in 2016 and 2018. Due to his oldest daughter +Monica’s unexpected death in 2021, he then took on raising his two grandchildren, Jason and Jenna whom he loved dearly. His long career with the Hidalgo County Appraisal District began in 2006 with the technology department where he served as the Data Processing Manager until his untimely passing.
George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He loved spending time with his family. He lived his life caring for others, his dogs, and often passed his time working with his hands to the benefit of his loved ones. He enjoyed the outdoors, sports, his friends, valued faith and home, but most of all, he treasured time with his loving family.
He is survived by his children; Adam Gandara (Teresa) and Rebekah Odle (Jared). His beloved grandchildren; Kayden, Isaiah, Alexander, Jason and Jenna. His brother, Eddie Gandara. His sisters in law; Sylvia Sanchez Garza (Richard) and Enedina Sanchez Olivarez. His brothers in law; Joe Sanchez (Lucinda) and Obed Sanchez, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation to celebrate George’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, from 10 AM to 9 PM with a holy rosary at 7 PM. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 8th. He will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Danny Olivarez, Jr., Ricky Garza, Joseph Garza, Matthew Garza, Lucas Garza, and Ezra Sanchez. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home. George will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Ana Maria Sanchez Gandara, at Weslaco City Cemetery.
