    Arturo Martinez

    January 17, 1960 - August 17, 2021

Mercedes-Arturo Martinez Sr., 61, passed away on Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Arturo was born on January 17th, 1960, to Cliserio Martinez and Elvira Suarez Martinez in Mexico. Arturo was his father’s right hand. They were inseparable. Arturo and his father farmed together with his brother Rodolfo and were perfectly content driving a tractor and enjoying the outdoors. They were a great team and had a reputation for their high level of integrity and work ethic. Arturo migrated to the United States in 1988 with his wife, Gloria. They worked in California and Michigan for many years until they settled in Weslaco, Texas. Arturo spent the rest of his career at the Rio Grande Valley Sugarmill in Santa Rosa, Texas. Arturo loved spending time with his family when he wasn't working, especially his mom and dad. He enjoyed watching soccer and baseball. Arturo was very social and had lots of friends. He would enjoy listening to good music, dance in front of his friends and family members, and joke around to make them smile. He was also very mechanically inclined and loved working on his cars. He spent his last days beside his lovely mother Elvira. Arturo is preceded in death by his father, Cliserio Martinez. He is survived by his mom, Elvira Martinez, sons, and Arturo Martinez Jr. (Rosalia) and Uriel Martinez Sr. (Maria), of Mercedes, brother, Rodolfo Martinez (Alma), sister Araceli Martinez (Baldomero Balderas), grandchildren, Arturo III, Kimberly, Leonides, Christopher, Uriel Jr., and Nathan Martinez. Visitation will be Friday, August 20th, 12 pm-9 pm, with a prayer service at 7 pm. On Saturday, August 21st, 10 am, the funeral service will be at McCaleb Funeral Home, followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
